Are you a young person living with epilepsy (aged 13-21 on 1 September 2024)? Do you want to challenge yourself with public speaking in a unique setting? Are you passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion? Then this great opportunity may be for you!
Public Speaking is an important skill and essential part of many jobs. However, for many young people the idea of speaking in public is nerve-wrecking and not something they get a chance to practice.
Epilepsy Scotland know that young people living with epilepsy are passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion but often don’t get the chance to tell people about their ideas or experience.
So, we are working with the Procurator Fiscal Service to address this and in 2024 will hold the first public speaking event for young people living with epilepsy.
Young people living with epilepsy who get in touch and let us know they are interested will receive a topic from the Crown Office & Procurator Fiscal Service on equality, diversity, or inclusion to do their speech on.
They will also be given details on what judges will be looking for, how long speech must be and other relevant details. This will be provided in early summer and participants will have until the event in Autumn 2024 to prepare their speech.
The speaking event will be held in September 2024 at the impressive Parliament House where the High and Supreme Court is located in Edinburgh. Participants’ speeches will be judged by a panel of prestigious individuals including the Solicitor General of Scotland and CEO of Epilepsy Scotland.
The top three participants will receive awards and all participants will receive unique certificates at the event to mark their contributions and all will have the chance to speak to other participants and judges over snacks and refreshments.
Deadline for applications is Friday 31st May 2024.
